Gravestone reads “In loving memory of Matthew Thompson who died November 7th 1926 aged 53 years, Thy will be done”

Quote from the “Sunbeam” monthly magazine of the Goole Primitive Methodist Church dated December 1926 :-
“We deeply sympathise with Mrs Thompson and family in the overwhelming sorrow they have sustained through the sudden death of Mr Thompson. Within a week or two of his passing Mr Thompson was engaged at regular duty, and the sad news came as a severe shock to a host of friends in the West Ward and at Dunhill Road. Quiet, peace loving, and affectionate in his home life; kind, Thoughtful and considerate to his fellow men, he was loved and respected by all who knew him. Very impressive are the tributes paid by men who worked by his side for many years. A large number of people were present at his internment and amongst the floral tributes was a beautiful wreath from his fellow workmen, and one from friends at Dunhill Road. We commend the widow and family to the all loving Father, believing that He will sustain them in their irreparable loss”

Dunhill Road was the Methodist Chapel
Matthew was a labourer at the Alum Works.
